I PARCHI LETTERARI "IN THE DIMENSION OF THE JOURNEY"
						- THE PLACES: CALTABELLOTTA

								|
Caltabellotta which became a part of
history because of the Vespro War, fought
between the Angionians and the Aragons beginning
in 1282 and ending peacefully, in favour of the
Aragons, with a treaty signed here in 1302,
since ancient times has been a theatre of war
								and bloody events. | |

						 It
is located at an altitude of 758 metres, “it is at
such an altitude that it is difficult to believe anyone
can live there” (Swinburne), “The position of Caltabellota is extraordinary, it
lies under a rocky outcropping” (Goethe) up
against a dolomitic rock with a characteristic shape
(948 metres) where the remains of the ancient castle are
found; this crèche-like city offers a panoramic and
extensive view from Agrigento to Marsala towards the
west and to Etna towards the East, an expanse that
covers 24 municipalities over three different provinces.

Now, however, it is time to proceed along the coast as
part of the traditional route taken by the travellers
who followed the Grand Tour, towards Agrigento, but not
						without having first visited...
